Foundation Prize Patrol awards more than $10,400

The Foundation Prize Patrol traveled the District on Monday, Oct. 22, to present grant awards.

“I'm so excited!” said Library Media Specialist Kat Pogatshnik upon learning of her grant award. (Pictured above) Pogatshnik plans to use her $370 grant to purchase basic circuitry supplies for use at Raymore Elementary School.

Many of the grant award will be used for robotics and engineering activities.

Members of the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation Board visited 10 schools, surprising teachers and their students as part of the foundation’s semi-annual “prize patrol,” distributing over-sized checks for 18 grants.

The Foundation’s mission is to enhance educational opportunities for the benefit of students, staff, and the community. The Foundation invited staff to apply for grants of up to $750 to be used this year.

Grants to middle schools to help fund author visit

The Foundation awarded two grants to help pay for expenses related to a planned visit by Alan Gratz, author of "Refugee." The Foundation awarded $650 to East Middle School Librarian Nikki Brewer and $650 to South Middle School Librarian Brooke Urbina. Both schools have book club activities and students are reading/listening to "Refugee."
