Congratulations to four Ray-Pec High School students selected for All-State Band! More than 1,400 students auditioned on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Columbia, for the All-State Band. Cate Wilhite was selected as the 8th best oboe in the state. Zane Brown was named the 7th best trumpet in the state. Brooke Hord was named the 3rd best snare drum player in the state. For the second consecutive year, Tammy Yang was named the number 1 mallet player in the state and was also selected as the 5th best timpani player.
Every student must memorize 13 scales and play five etudes that are specific for each instrument (every student plays the same music for their instrument). The auditions are “blind” meaning the three judges in each room do not know who is in the room playing. Doug Adolphson-trombone, Zach Paskiewicz-trumpet, and Darren Fields-trumpet, made call backs, which places them in the top 30 players in the state on their instruments.
