Raymore-Peculiar High School announces upcoming productions of Quilters and The Diviners
Raymore-Peculiar High School announces its upcoming productions of the musical Quilters and the play The Diviners. Performances of these two shows represents a first for Ray-Pec as both shows will be presented on alternating nights on the same set with completely different groups of actors.
Both shows perform in the Ray-Pec High School Theatre. Performances of Quilters will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, and Thursday, Feb. 15, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18. The Diviners will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14; Friday, Feb. 16; and Saturday, Feb. 17. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Tickets may be reserved by calling the box office line, 892-3999 extension 2400. Free babysitting will be provided.
Quilters is an unconventional musical that looks at the contribution and challenges of women in the settling of the frontier. The show features a series of songs and scenes that demonstrate the issues that people faced, and uses the blocks of a quilt as a metaphor for different life challenges.
The Diviners is a drama with plenty of humor which tells the story of a mentally challenged boy and the friendship he strikes up with a drifter during the great depression. The drifter tries to help the boy overcome his irrational fear of water and come to grips with the drowning death of his mother.
Both productions are directed by Teacher Todd Schnake, with Quilters having high school student Trevor Diepenbrock as the music director. The Diviners represents a special milestone for Schnake as it will be the 100th production he has directed for the Raymore-Peculiar School District.
The Quilters cast includes Abby Ball, Katie Clewell, Chloe Coons, Kiara Galloway, Alec Heriford, Jillian Humke, Kerstin Randolph, Kaylee Schaeffer, Ella Schnake, Matthew Stewart, Chely Stratton, and McKenna Wilson. Trevor Diepenbrock is the music director for the production.
The Diviners cast includes Tayler Bates, Logan Daniels, Trevor Diepenbrock, Peter Dyreng, Kylie Hansen, Spencer Harris, India Kittrell, Sarah Poisner, Jeffrey Sykes, Nate Thurman, and Larissa Wratney.
Technical Crew Chiefs for the shows include: Becca Bessette, Raef Bell, Katie Carlisle, Nick Hime, Talmage Kelley, Molly Loman, Caden Maxwell, Bailey Leighter, Riley Linn, Sadie Moore, Ce Ce Moss, and Zach Scott. Teacher Karla Penechar is the technical director and Pam Schnake, Michael Connelly, and Kay Connelly provide additional production assistance.
