Band brings home many awards from Chicago festival

Ray-Pec High School band students performed March 24 in Chicago. More than 30 ensembles and 900 students from Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, and other states participated. 

  • Gold Superior Rating : Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble
  • Maestro Awards - Only 10 total awards were given out among the 31 choirs, bands and orchestras. Ray-Pec won five of the 10 awards! Recipients from the Jazz Band: Zac Paszkiewicz, Miles Goodwin, and Doug Adolphson. Recipients from the Wind Ensemble: Zane Brown, Luke Van Dyne
  • Adjudicator Awards (highest award given) Must score 92 or higher. Concert Band scored 91 and missed receiving this award by one point. The three other Ray-Pec groups earned the award:
  • Wind Ensemble 98/100
    Jazz Ensemble 95/100
    Percussion Ensemble 94/100
  • Ray-Pec won the Sweepstakes for Instrumental Award. This combines the score of two groups from one school. The orchestra or band closest to 200 points wins!
  • Outstanding Band- (highest score) - Ray-Pec Wind Ensemble
  • In speaking to Band Director John Wilson, a judge said: ”I would put your Wind Ensemble in the top 1/10 of 1% of all the bands that I have heard in the US."
  • Band competition:
    3rd place Ray-Pec Concert Band
    2nd place Granite City Wind Ensemble
    1st Place Ray-Pec Wind Ensemble
  • Ray-Pec Wind Ensemble and Concert Band were invited to the Festival of Gold. This is a national festival and only three groups from the Chicago Festival were invited. Jazz Bands are not eligible to perform.
