Jodie Huston, Executive Director of the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation, left, was the guest speaker at the Ray-Pec Sunrise Optimist Club meeting on March 27 at the IHop Restaurant. Jodie told the club about the Caring About Nutrition (CAN) program, which serves students in grades K-5 with weekly bags of food for weekend meals they might otherwise miss. Club President Jerri Lynn Keith presented Jodie with a donation.
The CAN program sends home food for two breakfasts, two lunches and two snacks. There are also small food pantries at the middle and high schools for students to access when needed. The CAN program operates on donations of food, money and time from volunteers. To learn more, go to caringaboutnutrition.weebly.com/. Donations are appreciated at the schools or the Raymore Chamber of Commerce office.
Throughout the year, Optimist Club members make additional donations through a 50-50 drawing each Tuesday morning with virtually all the pot and winnings going to the CAN program. Contact Jodi at 816-892-1368 for more information.
