Congratulations to Brad Gaines, who was inducted on April 21 into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Coach Gaines has nearly 500 wins as a girls basketball coach. He was the the Panthers girls basketball coach for 7 years. Prior to coming to Ray-Pec, he also coached at Oak Grove and Orrick high schools. He won a state title in 1992 at Oak Grove, and also won numerous conference and district titles during his coaching career. (See more info below)
Gaines was inducted into Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and in 2000, he was inducted into the Missouri Football Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.
While no longer serving as the head coach for girls basketball at Ray-Pec, Coach Gaines has continued coaching as an assistant coach for high school football, basketball, and track/field.
In 1973, he began his 45-year coaching career at Orrick High School coaching football, basketball, and track. He later coached at Oak Grove and then Raymore-Peculiar.
Over those 45 years, he continued coaching all three sports. His record while serving as a head football coach at Orrick and Oak Grove was 205 wins and 91 losses, winning one state title and finishing as runner-up twice.
His Head Girls Basketball coaching career record was 480 wins and 237 losses. While serving as the head coach at Oak Grove for 20 seasons, he compiled a record of 404 wins and 157 losses, making two Final Four appearances and in 1992 finishing 31-0 and winning the Class 3 state title. During those 20 seasons, his teams made five state Quarterfinal appearances won seven district titles, and 13 conference titles.
