Science students at Ray-Pec South Middle School are able to experience some expanded hands-on learning in the school's greenhouse, thanks to grant money from the Ray-Pec Foundation and assistance from two local patrons.
At the beginning of the school year, the Ray-Pec Public School Foundation presented each school with money to be used for STEAM activities. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
South Middle School used its $1,500 grant for plants and supplies for the 7th and 8th grade science classes.
Teachers Carol Holsman and Lydia Baker worked with students to plan, prepare, and care for plants in the greenhouse.on the northeast side of the school.
Raymore residents Bob and Frances Schmuck, who are known for their flower-filled yard in the Eagle Glen subdivision, volunteered to help students with the projects.
