Students in the English 3 and English 4 classes at Ray-Pec High School participated in a Motivation Panel on Sept. 11. Adults representing a variety of careers in the Kansas City area were invited to speak on panels geared toward specific student interests. Students could select which panel to attend. Panel participants talked about their career paths and the five soft skills taught throughout the year in English 3 and English 4. Those soft skills are:
- Collaborating and communicating with others
- Using innovative (outside of the box) thinking
- Creating and adapting to change
- Utilizing decision-making skills
- Presenting to audiences
The Motivation Panel was geared toward English 3 and English 4 students who will complete Senior DRIVE projects as part of their senior year. Each senior in English 4 must work with a community mentor to complete his or her project and dedicate at least 25 hours outside of school hours to the project.
The incorporation of hands-on learning opportunities and promotion of soft skill development are both focus areas in the District’s Strategic Plan.
