Two Ray-Pec girls have advanced to the girls wrestling state tournament following District 3 competition Feb. 1-2 in Nixa. Congratulations to Sophomores Shelby Patterson and Tatum Westendorf!
It’s not just a first for Ray-Pec – it’s a first for the state of Missouri.
This is the inaugural year for the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) to have a separate wrestling division for girls. The girls division has one class with four districts. (This differs from boys wrestling, which is divided into four classes that each have four districts.)
At the girls’ district tournament, the top 3 wrestlers at each weight advance to state. Shelby placed 3rd in the 103-pound weight class, and Tatum placed 3rd in the 131-pound weight class to advance. Both girls were seeded second in the District 3 rankings.
Ray-Pec High School had three other wrestlers competing at the District meet:• Senior Emily Buasri competed in the 116-pound weight class• Sophomore Chloe Adams competed in the 126-pound weight class• Freshman Samantha Archer competed in the 143-pound weight class
The boys will have their district tournaments Feb. 8-9 before all the wrestlers descend on Mizzou Arena for the state wrestling tournament Feb. 14-16. The finals will take place starting at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. The mats for the final will be set up with two boys’ mats side-by-side on each end with the girls championship mat being set up in the center Mizzou Arena.
