[ARCHIVED] Raymore Elementary assembly focuses on the Power of Positive Intent

RE Jan assembly

In January, Raymore Elementary School students attended a school-wide assembly with their buddies. The focus was “Positive Intent – The Power of Love” with a message to choose to see the best in others. The emphasis was on cooperation, problem-solving, and showing compassion and kindness. A group of 5th graders sand the song “Kind Hearted Hand.” Celebrations included:
• Kindergarten classes celebrated improvement on NWEA scores and students showing perseverance through their learning.
• First grade classes recognized students who have demonstrated integrity.
• Second grade celebrated all students who improved on their winter NWEA test.
• Third grade celebrated that every third grade student improved on their winter NWEA test, with some growing more than 15 points.
• Fourth grade celebrated their quiet crusaders -- those students who excel in various ways but do so in a quiet way.
• Fifth grade celebrated students who begin with the end in mind by beginning tasks with a clear vision of their desired outcome.
• Specials teachers celebrated students who they notice have integrity and are positive role models in each special area (art, music, PE).
• Librarian Kat Pogatshnik, celebrated students who are participating in the Mark Twain nominee challenge and students who represented the school in the District Spelling Bee.

Assembly leaders also introduced the Great Kindness Challenge, which will take place during February.

Once a month, students at Raymore Elementary either attend a school-wide celebration assembly or meet with their buddies to learn more about the power and skills of Conscious Discipline. During the assemblies, which are led by a group of 5th graders, each grade level celebrates their students' recent successes. Twice a year, 5th graders have an opportunity to apply for a leadership job. One job is an assembly leader.
