Sophomore Spencer Barr was nominated by his teachers to attend the Sophomore Pilgrimage, which will take place on April 9. One sophomore from each high school in the state of Missouri is selected to attend the annual event.
Each year, 250 high school sophomores have the opportunity to observe the Missouri Legislature in session; tour the Capitol, the Governor's Mansion and the Supreme Court Building; and meet state legislators. A Certificate of Merit in Citizenship is presented to each sophomore making the Pilgrimage.
Spencer is pictured with Judy Wertz, representative of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Missouri, which sponsors the event. There is no cost to the student. GFWC pays for the luncheon and provides transportation.
Participating students are selected from the top fourth of the class who exemplify high standards of Honor, Courage, Citizenship, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service.
The project helps to promote good citizenship and enables the students to see our state government in action.
