Fifth grade music students at Peculiar Elementary are producing an audio podcast called "Music Movers!"
Music Teacher Katie Schork is working with the students, who are on teams to handle different aspects of the process, including preparation, production, set-up, and editing. Students were given the opportunity to choose to participate.
The podcast project is a first for Schork. "I have never done anything like this before!," she said. "It's been a fun learning adventure!"
Schork received a $500 grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation to help purchase equipment to create the podcast. The grant was among 101 classroom grants awarded during August across the state.
Students selected the name for the podcast, which focuses on "essential questions" in the music classroom. The first episode considers the question "Does a performance have to be public to be meaningful?"
