Ray-Pec’s production of "Guys and Dolls" has been nominated for 11 Blue Star awards.
Starlight Theatre’s annual Blue Star Awards recognize achievement and excellence in musical theatre among Kansas City area high school students.The award nominations, originally expected to be announced in schools on April 30, were live-streamed via Starlight’s Facebook page on Thursday, May 21.
Ray-Pec was nominated in 11 categories, including:
- Outstanding Overall Production
- Outstanding Ensemble
- Outstanding Artistic Contribution by a Student-Abby Ball for Choreography
- Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role-Ella Schnake
- Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role-Seth Kelley
- Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role-Denton Meehan as Nicely Nicely
- Outstanding Actor in a Featured Role-Dylan de Leon as Harry the Horse
- Outstanding Actor in a Featured Role-Robbie Keays as Benny Southstreet
- Outstanding Actress in an Ensemble Role-Kaijah Simmons as Salvation Army Member
- Outstanding Actress in an Ensemble Role-Makiya Leslie-Hardison as Hot Box Dancer
- Outstanding Actor in an Ensemble Role-Xander Blackmon as Crapshooter
Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Blue Star Awards are one of the largest and most admired high school musical theatre awards programs in the nation. All high schools in metropolitan Kansas City and selected outlying communities are invited to participate. Each year the program serves 5,000 area students who contribute either on the stage or behind the scenes to their schools’ musical theatre productions.
Due to Covid-19, the Blue Star Awards Ceremony is postponed to Friday, July 31.
