Ashley Tegenkamp will be the new principal at Creekmoor Elementary School, effective in July. The Ray-Pec School Board approved the hiring at its April 29 meeting.
She is currently assistant principal at Sterling and Ridge View elementary schools in the Warrensburg School District. Previously, she was an instructional coach in the Fort Osage School District and an elementary teacher in the Lee's Summit School District. She also taught one year in Omaha, Neb.
Tegenkamp said she had been drawn to the Ray-Pec School District since learning from former Superintendent Dr. Kari Monsees and Director of Secondary Education Dr. Kristel Barr while earning her education specialist degree.
"During my time in their classes, I was impressed with what they shared about the quality curriculum, district initiatives, goals and dedication to student learning in the Ray-Pec district," she said. "Since then, I have continued to watch the district progress in ways that align to my own educational philosophies and beliefs. I am looking forward to getting to know the Creekmoor family."
Dr. Michelle Hofmann, Ray-Pec Director of Elementary Education, said she looks forward to Tegenkamp joining the Ray-Pec team.
"She is a leader who comes to us with strengths in collaboration and communication, and is highly knowledgeable about instruction," Hofmann said. "It was clear to us that she has a passion for the students, staff and families that she serves."
Tegenkamp earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Missouri State University. She earned a master's degree in technology enhanced teaching from Mid-America Nazarene University. She received her education specialist degree from the University of Central Missouri.
Tegenkamp and her husband, Marcus, live in Lee's Summit with their two sons, Peyton, 11; and Luke, 7.
She will replace Melissa Lucas, who is leaving the principal position at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
