Congratulations to Brooklyn Meloy, the Raymore-Peculiar Spelling Bee Champion!
The District Spelling bee was held virtually on Jan. 12. After 16 rounds of competition, Brooklyn was declared the winner after successfully spelling the word “teenagers.” She is an 8th grader at Ray-Pec East Middle School.
The runner-up was Mason Bunger, a 5th grader at Raymore Elementary School.
Brooklyn will represent the Ray-Pec School District at the Cass County Spelling Bee, scheduled for March 16 at the Raymore-Peculiar Administrative Services Center.
Brookley and Mason each received a trophy and a Visa Gift Card from UMB Bank. School spelling bee winners received medallions.
Thanks to Joyce Webb, retired school librarian, who served as Pronouncer. Judges for the Bee were Dr. Al Voelker, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, Cynthia Byous, Chief Financial Officer, and Dr. Bryan Pettengill, Assistant Superintendent of Operations.

Stonegate Elementary School: Kane Columbatto (5th grade), Beckett Hunziker (5th grade) and Faarah Rauf (5th grade).
Timber Creek Elementary School: Auchen Baranowski (5th grade), Jill Blomquist (5th grade), and Maxwell Young (4th grade).
East Middle School: Caden Johnson (8th grade) and Kadyn Johnson (7th grade).
