Shull Elementary School will remain open for the 2012-2013 school year. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Kyle shared the news with Shull Elementary staff during a recent staff meeting. The future of Shull Elementary was in question after the closure of the school was recommended as a possible budget cut for the district. Last year, the district went through an extensive budget reduction process. As part of that process, suggested budget cuts and revenue enhancements were categorized into three tiers. The district implemented many of the Tier 1 recommendations. The closing of Shull Elementary was listed as a Tier 2 recommendation. With the savings realized by the Tier 1 measures and the unexpected federal Jobs Bill funds, the district ended the 2010-2011 school year with reserve balances of more than 20 percent. After reviewing the district’s current finances, and anticipating that future growth would necessitate re-opening Shull, the district’s administration has decided to keep the school open for 2012-2013.
