Mr. Beneke's Welcome
Beneke, Brett

My name is Brett Beneke, and I’ve been teaching at Ray-Pec since the 2014-2015 school year. In that time I’ve taught English 3, AP Lang, Advanced English Two, and IB Lit HL 1 & 2.

I received my undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Kansas and my teaching certification from Avila University.

After college and before coming to Ray-Pec I worked for two years at Happiness is Camping for Children with Cancer, a New Jersey camp that pairs a sleepaway camp experience with a full oncology staff to provide children the traditional summer camp experience at no cost to them. It was that experience that drove me to join the education system.

Once at Ray-Pec I became involved with the ACT prep course, which I have taught it for the past three years, and the After School Panther Tutoring on Wednesdays. In the summer of 2017 I was selected to participate in a Fulbright-Hays research trip to spend a month studying how the Rwandan education system has helped the country to recover from the 1994 genocide.

In the 2017-2018 school year I joined the high school Building Leadership Team to better understand how the building operates and to look for ways to help improve the experience for students and teachers. In 2018 I was awarded the District Teacher of the Year designation, and have spent the succeeding months looking for ways to live up to that compliment. Starting in 2018 I’ve had the good fortune of being the Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) sponsor.

The next goal is to finish up my MA after this first handful of apprenticeship years.

If you ever need access to what’s going on in class, access to SIS to check grades, gain access to the Ray-Pec Writing Handbook, or information about the ACT prep course--feel free to use this link to access the hub for all of my building-level information.

Thanks and have a fantastic day,

Brett Beneke
