Nearly 60 people gathered early Friday morning, May 24, at Ray-Pec High School to complete “The Murph Challenge.” The Murph is a workout done over Memorial Day Weekend to honor fallen military heroes. The workout is named after Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in 2005.
The workout includes a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 body squats, and a 1-mile run. Often the workout is done wearing a weighted vest.
High School Teacher and Coach Nick Tebbe organized the local effort, and participants included student athletes, faculty members, alumni, and School Resource Officer Rick Clausing. Thanks to Junior Courtney Harrison, who attended the event at 5:45 a.m. to take photos.
Tebbe plans to organize the event again next year with even more participants.
